Choosing the best driving instructor

20 February, 2014

I f you've decided that now is the right time to learn to drive, you're probably going to start your search for a driving instructor pretty soon.

There are then a few things you'll need to consider before picking your driving instructor, the instructor that will help you achieve your goals.

We've put together a few helpful tips to consider before you make your decision.

Choosing the best driving instructor is not just a case of who offers cheap driving lessons, because every learner driver requires different skills and expertise from their instructor.

Read reviews
Other peoples' experiences are an excellent way of gauging how well you'll fit with a particular driving instructor.  Passed pupils testimonials will highlight traits or trends that may suit your needs and personality.

Check our 'passed' pupil's reviews on the driving instructors' and their experiences whilst taking driving lessons.

Take an assessment lesson
An assessment driving lesson is a great way of getting an idea of what you're looking for from a driving instructor before you commit to anything more long term.

An assessment lesson will give you an opportunity to determine if you'll be able to get along with the driving instructor plus, it will also give you an idea of how quickly you're going to pick up the basics of driving.

Character
We all learn at a different pace based on our own expectations and the instructors influence or character.

Some learners will inevitably look for a patient driving instructor who is good at calming their nerves and walking them through each step of the process.  Whilst other student drivers, might prefer a driving instructor who is to the point, pushing and encouraging them to go further each driving lesson.

Experience
You'll also want to make sure you find out about a driving instructor's experience before you choose who you want to learn to drive with.  This is especially important if you're particularly nervous about getting in the driver's seat or if you're looking for someone with specific skills or training.

Karen's School of Motoring driving instructors are all fully qualified ADI'S that have had their standards checked by the Driving Standards Agency.

Should you look for cheap driving lessons?
It can be tempting to choose a driving instructor who offers cheap driving lessons, but it's important to consider whether that makes them the best fit for you.

A cheaper hourly rate doesn't automatically mean that you'll end up spending less, as choosing the wrong driving instructor could lead to you needing more lessons and, therefore, spending more to get on the road in the long run.

Look for driving instructors' offers and discounts
Although searching for an instructor based upon who offers cheap driving lessons might not be the best way to find your perfect driving instructor, that doesn't mean you can't find your ideal driving instructor at a good price.

Why not find out if your driving instructor offers any discounts or special deals? Many driving instructors, for example, provide cheaper rates for driving lessons booked in blocks.

Consider all the factors
Make sure you look at the complete picture first to ensure you're making the best financial decision.

You may well be able to find a perfect driving instructor who offers cheaper driving lessons, but make sure you've considered all of the factors before making your final decision as the instructor will determine a sound experience or not.
